During church on Sunday, we sang the song "The Blessing." During the song, I found myself consumed with part of the lyrics that jumped out to me. If you haven’t heard this song, go find it on Apple Music, Spotify or whatever method you use. It is really good!

The lyrics stated:

May His presence go before you

And behind you, and beside you

All around you, and within you

He is with you, He is with you

In the morning, in the evening

In your coming, and your going

In your weeping, and rejoicing

He is for you, He is for you

He is for you, He is for you

He is for you, He is for you

He is for you, He is for you

Humans will sometimes fall into the trap of thinking that a huge, omnipotent God doesn’t care about our daily lives. He must be too busy with a major world crisis that He possibly can’t bother Himself with my concerns. There are other things that are far too important than my marriage.

All of those statements could not be further from the truth. God cares deeply about us and our lives. He is not an absentee or apathetic Father. In fact, there are too many scriptures that say the opposite. Here are just two as an example.

“Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.” III John 1:2 NKJV

“The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” John 10:10 NKJV

God cares about us having a life where our marriage is healthy and abundant, just like He cares about our souls being healthy. It is expected that human parents want to see their child grow up to be successful and thrive in all areas of their life. We want them to develop a deep faith in God, have a successful family and stable career that blesses them. As our Heavenly Father, God is no different. He loves us so much He sent Jesus to die for us, and cares about our success in every aspect of our lives.

Another way to say this is, we have God on our side. He is for us. Romans 8:31 even states, “If God before us, who can be against us?” There is another powerful scripture in 1 John 4:4 that says, “Greater is the God inside of us than the enemy (Satan) that is in the world.

My point is that we have God on our side, no matter what our marriage faces. There may be a furious storm raging, feelings that have been crushed or wounded, a betrayal of trust that cut like a knife, or a marriage that is devoid of passion, intimacy and affection.

No matter what you face, God is with you. The same spirit that raised Christ from the dead is inside of us and is more powerful than any attack Satan brings us. (Romans 8:11) God can heal our broken hearts, fix our worst messes, and restore our marriages. Our job is to believe that He can do exactly what His word promises and to obey him. It may not always be easy and it most likely will defy human logic. If we will have the audacity to take a leap of faith and trust Him, He will come through every time.
