I love the stories in the Bible of God’s miraculous ability to save his people. A great example of this is Jesus calming the storm in Luke 8. The situation was getting desperate and Jesus did the unthinkable. He spoke peace to the storm and saw immediate results.

There are other times in life when God asks us to walk through a storm of life and doesn’t respond the exact way that we want him to. Matthew 14 tells of a different encounter with Jesus versus a storm. In this situation, Jesus did not repeat his previous miracle but his response was just as powerful.

The disciples were in the boat and fighting against the waves. They were obeying the command of Jesus and were exactly where they were supposed to be. Still, life got very hard for the discipline.

In the middle of the disciples struggle, they looked up and saw Jesus walking on the exact storm that was making their life hard. Think about that. In a moment that was difficult, frustrating and hard, Jesus came walking up to the them showing complete calm and peace.

Being married is absolutely amazing. Knowing that we are doing the exact will of God in our marriage is even more amazing. Still, there are times when our marriage isn’t easy. There are storms that rage and times where it seems like we are fighting a losing battle against the pressures and stresses of life.

The incredible thing is that we have a God who showed mastery over the storm. By walking on the water, Jesus put himself in a position of complete dominion over the waves. Romans 8:11 says that the same spirit that raised Christ from the dead lives in us. We have the same miracle working power in us that enables Jesus to walk peacefully on the storm.

This gives me hope in my marriage. The God inside of me is no match for any storm that life tries to throw at me. I can be surrounded by struggle, but still at peace knowing that God will see me through. I may not get the quick fix that I want, but so trust God’s power to walk me through the path He has called me to follow.

With God, my marriage is storm proofed. Whether the storm is immediately shut down or God asks me to walk on the waves, I know He has me. I know He will take what Satan meant for my destruction and turn it into my testimony.
